Dennis Severs came to Spitalfields in 1979 and bought the derelict house at 18 Folgate Street that had been saved by the Spitalfields Trust. He reconfigured it to tell the story of an imaginary Huguenot family who had lived there since it was built in 1724. The Trust took on the house in 1999 and continues to maintain it. Some of those who knew Dennis are still involved as Trustees.
